Pre-WWDC Cupertino Trip

There's been a bunch of discussion over Twitter today about getting down to One Infinite Loop on Sunday, June 6th, the day before WWDC starts. Typically, The Company Store (Apple's on-campus store, open to the public) is open that day even though they are not usually open on the weekends. I called the store this morning, and they are going to be open again this year from noon to 5:00pm.

It is not possible to get all the way from San Francisco to Apple's Corporate HQ completely on public transit, so the logistics could be a little daunting, but one possibility would be to charter a bus down. In the long run, it might save some money while being faster and more comfortable.

Chime in in the comment section if you're interested in going from downtown San Francisco down to Cupertino on Sunday, June 6th and don't have a way to get there yet. If there's enough interest, I'll look into what it would cost to get arrange transportation based on the number of interested people.

The other option would be to set up a big carpool.

I'm interested, but I won't be getting in until early afternoon that day. Any idea on the timing?

I'm certainly in, let me know if you need any help setting it up.

Hi Jeff,

I'd love to do such a trip since I've never been to San Francisco before and I've got no clue how to get to the HQ.

Let me know if it will work out.

Great idea, and I'd definitely be interested in catching a ride if room is available.

I would be interested in catching a ride down there. I am staying around Union Square and should be there around noon on Sunday.

I interested, I might be in just for the trip down though. My brother is moving the SJ on the first, so I might be breaking off to go see him.

My current plan is to caltrain down and then taxi over to Apple. Unless I can make him come drive me around.

I'd be up for it and around Sunday. They were closed last time I was in town. Want to grab my badge too though.

Depending on when I check in at the hotel and pick up my badge/etc. on Sunday, I would certainly be interested!

Thanks for getting the conversation rolling, Jeff!

here's a thought:
What if SFO was the "rally point" instead of the Moscone Center? Since it's only a 20 minute ride on the BART from Powell St. to SFO, it seems like that would save a lot of time over driving all the way downtown to Moscone. The fare for that trip is $8 each way.

The remaining 30 miles to Apple HQ would be in the rental(s) we pick up from SFO.

Does that make sense, or am I just making things more complicated?

Joe said...

Jay: Good thought! My only concern with that would be that I may miss checkin at Moscone on Sunday. (I arrive in the early afternoon.) Of course, don't let me stop anyone! If it works, go for it.

Joe: good point regarding check in.

Does anyone know what the check in hours will be on Sunday?

I live in SF, have a (small) car, and used to work at Apple.

In exchange for good conversation, I'd be happy to take 3 people (4 if 3 of them are small) down to HQ and back.

I'm interested. Thanks for looking into this, Jeff!

Made the pilgrimage to 1 Infinite Loop at last year's WWDC too and it's kept me clothed for most of the year ;-)

cheers,

Hi Jeff!

I'm down for a little trip down there, however it IS possible to arrive there by public transit alone. You need to take the train down to Sunnyvale, and then catch a bus from there to one stop after Cupertino which will drop you off right in front of the Apple HQs. Not too long of a trip, did it last year on sunday afternoon, the campus was like a ghost town.

I'm in! I've been in Cupertino last WWDC and it's awesome. For sure a way better experience to go with some folks!

I'm interested, although priority after early afternoon arrival at SFO is getting my badge.

I'm from Brazil and I'll be arriving if SF saturday, so I'd have a lot of time to kill on sunday. I'm game for a bus or car pool. I'll be very close to the Moscone Center.
BTW, what's so special about the store?

Count me in as well, I am happy reserve a rental car as well if that helps and pile in as many as we can in the seats, roof, and trunk. :-)

It is possible to take public transit from SF to 1 IL. Take Caltrain to the Sunnyvale station, then take the 55 VTA bus to De Anza Blvd. and Mariani Ave.

You are now about 200 meters from Infinite Loop.
