Menlo

By request, the code samples on my blog will now appear in the Menlo font if that font is installed on your system.

Am I the only one thinks Menlo is a poor replacement for Monaco? And worst of all, Font Book won't let me disable it!

I don't like it either.
Inconsolata ROCKS!

You're not the only one, but I think number is shrinking.

I despised Menlo when I first installed the beta version of Xcode 3.2 at WWDC.

It took about two days before I liked it better than Monaco, and that surprised me, because I've been using Monaco as my programming font for an awfully long time.

You can get rid of Menlo by moving it out of /System/Library/Fonts as long as you have administrative privileges, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it.

Menlo looks pretty good, and I'm now using it myself (along with a light green background for calm feeling).

However, the bold sucks. I recommend you not use it for highlighting in your code samples.

Nooooooooooooooo! I love Monaco, the first thing I did when switching to SL was to change back to Monaco in XCode.

How about holding a poll?

Andrew:

You make a good point. The bold doesn't stand out nearly as much as Monaco did.

I'll have to come up with another approach. I don't think I have the time or gumption to change the existing ones, though.

Rusty:

It's okay, Monaco is still there for you to use. It's just a change to the default. Nobody's taking anything away from you. My style sheets are set to fall back to Monaco, so just uninstall Menlo and the code should look just like it used to.

But, seriously, give it a chance. I really despised it at first. How dare they switch from Monaco. But I think it's easier to read, to be honest.

I know, change is hard. We'll get through this. Somehow.

I like Menlo, but I'm an Inconsolata man for life.

At 12pt and above, Menlo is a fine font, and the differences between it and Monaco are subtle.

Below 12pt, where Monaco would be rendered as a bitmap font, Menlo is extremely claustrophobic and, in my opinion, unusable.

In my browser your website uses 10pt Menlo and it's difficult to read. If you're going to use Menlo please use 12pt or greater.

What youre saying is completely true. I know that everybody must say the same thing, but I just think that you put it in a way that everyone can understand. I also love the images you put in here. They fit so well with what youre trying to say. Im sure youll reach so many people with what youve got to say.
