The Grass on the Other Side of the Fence

Here is an short account of the experiences of one of the earliest Palm Pre developers. Be warned, though: The neon green on black is a little hard on the eyes.

Not intending to pass judgment here, just think it's interesting to see what life is like developing for other mobile platforms. I think keeping a little in touch with what's going on in the Palm and Android development world helps us keep a sense of perspective when we get frustrated with the App Store and iPhone development process.

I went to PreDevCamp and found the Pre development experience to be very enjoyable. It's definitely faster and easier to develop on the Pre, but you don't get the same power you do with iPhone apps.

Well, that's subjective. As someone who's HTML and Javascript skills are far weaker than my Objective-C skills, I can guarantee that the opposite is true for me.

But I wasn't really thinking about tools or technology when linking to this, but more just that Palm has to deal with a lot of the same issues that Apple does and, as a result, Palm developers have to deal with a lot of the same issues that Apple developers do.

Definitely true, I enjoy developing for the iPhone but I do get the sense that Palm is trying to kick it up a notch by really reaching out to developers. I can only hope that Apple follows suit. :)
